In 2009 Stella's studies in international law and human rights brought her to Uganda, where she interviewed refugees in Kampala. Afterwards Stella worked for the European Union in China, but tired of working for big organizations she decided to go back to Uganda in 2012 and live a location independent lifestyle.
Some women she met previously, mainly widows and HIV positive, made jewellery out of recycled paper and left a huge impact on Stella: especially Susan Laker. Because when Stella returned end of 2012 to Uganda, Susan surprised her by having learnt English and reading & writing in the meantime from the money she had send. Stella started to co-design and sell Susan's jewelry to finance social programs for the women and their families on the ground.
A couple of years later, in 2017 she set up in addition to this product based model, a public benefit foundation that is fully funded by donations. The 22STARS Foundation is supporting now more than 375 kids long-term to go to school and runs additional community development programs such as a Small Business and Micro Loans project.
To share her passion and knowledge for Uganda Stella started in 2016 Social Nomads together with the Local Project Leaders of 22STARS and organizes Impact Workations, specifically designed for Digital Nomads to this beautiful country. Since 2018 she also organises Impact Trips in German together with Stefanie Oeffner. So far Stella has done more than 15th Workation/Trips and many more are lined up. When Stella is not in Uganda, she loves hiking with her family and travels the world, alone or with her friends from the digital nomad community.
